Samite

Samite's music, which features the kalimba, marimba, litungu, and various flutes, has mesmerized audiences throughout the world. Born and raised in Uganda, Samite was forced to flee as a political refugee in the 1980s. He now makes his home in Ithaca, New York, where he has released eight CDs internationally, and in 2009 composed an original score for the PBS film Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai. In 2002, Samite founded Musicians for World Harmony, an organization dedicated to using the healing power of music to promote peace, undersanding, and harmony throughout the world.

The Carnegie Lecture Hall is located to the rear of the Carnegie Library in Oakland. Entrance to the Lecture Hall is on Schenley Drive (not on Forbes Ave.). Patrons using walkers, wheelchairs, or who cannot do stairs must enter through the Rear Portal located in the Carnegie Museums parking lot (parking lot entrance at the Corner of Forbes Ave and Craig St.).
